Why PEEK compound is good when added to carbon fiber?
In order to further improve the performance of PEEK, you can add different reinforcement fibers to it, in practical applications, often add a certain amount of reinforcement materials to it, adding different kinds of reinforcement materials will lead to different changes in the mechanical properties of PEEK materials, thermal stability and other aspects, the most common glass fiber and carbon fiber. So what's the difference between PEEK with 30% glass fiber and PEEK with 30% carbon fiber?
First of all, from the point of view of mechanical properties, the strength and stiffness of PEEK with glass fiber are improved compared with PEEK without fiber. Compared with PEEK with glass fiber, PEEK with carbon fiber has higher strength and stiffness. The strength of carbon fiber is much higher than that of glass fiber, so in the case of adding the same amount of fiber, carbon fiber can provide PEEK with superior mechanical properties. Compared with ordinary PEEK, PEEK with glass fiber has higher strength and better rigidity and also has better wear resistance and impact resistance. The addition of carbon fiber PEEK is more excellent in strength and rigidity, especially in high temperature environment performance is more excellent.
Secondly, from the point of view of thermal stability and corrosion resistance, PEEK with carbon fiber has better thermal stability and corrosion resistance than PEEK with glass fiber. The thermal stability and corrosion resistance of carbon fiber are good, which can effectively improve the overall performance of PEEK. Compared with ordinary PEEK, the thermal stability of PEEK with glass fiber is improved, but the glass fiber may fall off under high-temperature environment, which will affect its performance. The addition of carbon fiber PEEK has better thermal stability and can maintain better performance under high-temperature environment.
Then in terms of processing: PEEK with glass fiber has good processing performance and can be processed by injection molding, extrusion and other ways. The PEEK with carbon fiber has poor processing performance, especially in the case of fine carbon fiber particles, so certain measures need to be taken in the processing process to avoid problems such as carbon fiber particles falling off and clogging equipment.
Finally, from the cost point of view, PEEK with glass fiber is lower than PEEK with carbon fiber, glass fiber is a cheap reinforcement fiber compared with carbon fiber, and carbon fiber is relatively high price, so PEEK with glass fiber has a certain advantage in cost. There are differences in mechanical properties, thermal stability and corrosion resistance between PEEK with 30% glass fiber and PEEK with 30% carbon fiber.
