 What is PEI pei in plastic materials ?               

Polyetherimide, PEI, is an amber transparent solid with inherent flame retardant and low smoke without any additives. It has an oxygen index of 47%, a combustion class of UL94-V-0, and a density of 1.28 to 1.42g/cm3. PEI has strong high temperature stability, even non-enhanced PEI, still has good toughness and strength. Therefore, the superior thermal stability of PEI can be used to make high temperature and heat resistant devices. It has excellent mechanical properties, electrical insulation properties, radiation resistance, high and low temperature resistance and wear resistance, and can be transmitted through microwave. PEI also has good flame retardancy, resistance to chemical reactions and electrical insulation properties. The glass transition temperature is very high, up to 215ºC. PEI also has a very low shrinkage rate and good isodirectional mechanical characteristics. Adding glass fiber, carbon fiber or other fillers can achieve the purpose of strengthening modification; It can also be composed of heat-resistant polymer alloys with other engineering plastics, which can be used for a long time at the working temperature of -160~180 ° C.

 Why to add the glass fiber to PEI ? 
PEI plastic is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal stability. However, the density of PEI plastics is high, and the stress concentration is easy to cause stress concentration, so in order to improve its performance, it is often necessary to add glass fiber reinforcement.

Glass fiber as an excellent reinforcement material, can improve the strength of the material, hardness, wear resistance at the same time, but also reduce the weight of the material. Adding an appropriate amount of glass fiber to PEI plastics can effectively improve its mechanical properties and thermal stability, while also improving its wear resistance, chemical resistance and other properties.

Injection conditions:
Drying treatment :PEI has hygroscopic properties and can cause material degradation. The humidity should be less than 0.02%. The recommended drying condition is 150ºC for 4 hours.

Melting temperature: 340~400ºC for common materials; The reinforced material is 340~415ºC.

Mold temperature :107~175ºC, recommended mold temperature of 140ºC.

Injection pressure :700~1500bar.

Injection speed: Use the highest injection speed possible.

Tip for Machine selection :
PEI resin can be molded on most standard injection moulding machines. A reciprocating screw injection molding machine is recommended.
